I’ve Fallen in Love…

with German mortar smear!

Fixer Upper

I watched this week’s episode of Fixer Upper on HGTV with Chip and Joanna Gaines and fell in love!

I mean I always love what they do to each house. (I even liked the mid-century modern one from last season and I don’t like mid-century modern!)

Before and After

German smear is a process where mortar is spread on the bricks then some is brushed off to expose part of the brick underneath.   It’s. So. Cool!!

It gives the house this old world European look.
Yep, I’m in love and Brian is worried!

Faithfulness Like the Mighty Mountains

In October, Brian and I had the opportunity to travel to the beautiful state of Washington. It was my first time in the Pacific Northwest so we took a few extra days to spend some time with his dad’s cousins near Olympia before heading back to Seattle for a conference.

We were able to experience God’s awe inspiring creation of Mt. Ranier.

The views were breathtaking!

I began this post soon after Brian and I returned from that trip.

But life suddenly changed directions.

Right before the trip my dad had a stroke and then within two weeks after we returned we received the word of his cancer diagnosis.  Four weeks later he passed away.

Life can change in a moment.

It usually happens when we are not expecting it – when we are looking in one direction and never expecting to have to change that direction.

But isn’t it wonderful to know that in the midst of all of life’s changes one thing will never ever change?

One thing stays constant.

One thing is steadfast.

One thing stands tall and strong like the mighty mountains.

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep.  Psalm 36:5-6

God’s love.

His love never fails.

He is always faithful.

He is our Father, our Savior, our Redeemer.

He is our strength when we are weak from all of life’s twists and turns.

Just like the mighty mountains, His love cannot be moved.

His love endures forever and ever and ever.

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. Psalm 117:2

Snowmagedon 2016

Today marks the 4th snow day for the kiddos! They, of course, are thrilled!  They’ve been out since Wednesday, so it seems even longer with the weekend thrown in there.

I think we got about 10″ here, maybe a little more.  The wind gusts were so strong, it created large snow drifts which made it hard to really measure it.  At one point Daniel measured 8″ in one spot and 18″ in a snow drift.  Any way you measure it, it was a lot of snow for our neck of the woods!

Our neighbor let Brian borrow his “big boy toy” to clear the driveway and Brian had a blast!  Every time I looked out he had a big ole grin on his face! 🙂

Our friend down the street borrowed it and used it for a little more than clearing his driveway!  The piles of snow had to go somewhere, so why not build a sled run in the middle of the cul-de-sac?!

Thankfully, our schools now have what they call Non-Instructional Days, so the kids have snow packets with school work to do at home and we don’t have to add the missed days to the end of the school year.  Last year was the first year to try out the new program and the kids actually got out of school in May instead of June.

So, now the question becomes, will that mound of snow still be there come Spring?

Manic Monday

It’s the first Monday of the new year!

It’s also the first Monday I have been home since leaving 4 weeks ago!

Today my Monday will include…

grocery shopping

putting away the Christmas decorations

walking the dog

did I mention laundry…

It’s definitely going to be a bit of a crazy day!

So for a little fun here’s a flashback to 1986!

And, yep, I had some of those big hoop earrings!
