Keep Walking

Today I am sitting at a desk in a hotel room looking out over leafless trees and a couple of lonely Adirondack chairs.  I imagine it would be such a lovely spot in the spring when the weather is warm, the birds singing, and a breeze blowing through the leaves that have gained new life on these trees that have been watching over the comings and goings for hundreds of years, reading a book and sipping some sweet iced tea…

Brian is presenting a paper at the conference we have come to attend and I am sitting here enjoying a few hours of alone time.  The children are home enjoying time with friends and a break from the usual.

As I sit here I wonder what 2013 is going to bring and what changes we will experience over this new year.  While we never know what all tomorrow will bring, we know that changes will come along the way.  Some good, some we would rather not experience, and some we probably don’t even realize have happened until they have passed and we sit there wondering when they happened.  Changes in a job, changes as children grow, or even changes of attitudes.  But with each change we know that God is there amidst them all.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate

a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

We may feel His presence as we walk through new doors or we may feel as if we are traversing the unknown waters alone.  But regardless of what we “feel”, we can hold on to the knowledge that He never abandons us.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;

he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:9

2013 will be filled with changes yet unseen.

There may be times when we will have to keep walking relying on what we know in our mind, until we reach the point we can feel it with our heart.

Just keep walking.  There is always One there taking each step with you.
